How to Install Fonts on a Mac
If you are planning on creating a digital scrapbooking layout, you are going to need fonts! Thankfully, the internet has hundreds of free fonts that you can use for your personal layouts! This tutorial will walk you through how how to install fonts on a Mac.
Step 1 – Find your Font & Download it
Check out Friday Fonts here at Gotta Pixel where we showcase different fonts that we love and use ourselves. Once you have located the font that you want, click “Download” to save it to your computer. A great example for free fonts is Kevin & Amanda. If you go to their site you can download individual fonts by clicking on the sample. This will take you to a new page with a download link.
When you click on it, your font will be downloaded to your Downloads folder. For more information on downloading files on a Mac, see the Downloading and Unzipping Files on a Mac tutorial.
Step 2 – Move Your Font
Move your font from the Downloads folder to a folder of your choice. I made a separate folder in my digital scrapbooking files just for fonts.
Step 3 – Install Your Font
Double click on the font file. It is the one that ends with .ttf or, sometimes, .otf. This will launch Font Book. Click on Install Font.
Put a check mark next to the font you want to install and click on Install Checked.
Font Book runs a validation of your font. You can see that this font has one minor problem, but I installed it anyway. If you see that the font has major problems, you should not install it.
Another Method to Install Fonts
You can also launch Font Book from your Launchpad. With Font Book open, you can see all of the fonts that are installed on your system. You can install fonts by clicking on the add button. You can organize them or disable fonts that you no longer wish to use.
