Downloading and Unzipping Files on Mac Computers
The process for downloading and unzipping files on mac computers is different from on a Windows PC, but it is easy to do. This tutorial will take you through that process.
Most files that you download from the internet will be in a .zip format. A zip file may contain one or more files or folders that may have been compressed. This allows us to take a really large file and make it smaller so that it is faster to download.
Step 1 – Click on Your Download File
When you click on your download file, you will see it move up to the download arrow in the upper right part of your Safari window. If you click on that download button, you will see all of the files that are being downloaded.
Step 2 – Open Your Download Folder
All of your downloads are kept in the Download folder. This shows up as a blue folder on your dock. Click on the Downloads folder and then on Open in Finder. I like to use the Column View for this next step. Your Mac automatically unzips the files for you so they are ready to be moved.
Step 3 – Move Your Downloaded Files
Open Finder to the folder in which you would like to keep your files. Again, I use the Column View. Click on the files in your Download folder and drag them to their new location.
Step 4 – Delete the Files in the Download Folder
You just made a copy of your downloaded files, so you can move the files in the Download folder to the trash.
That’s it! You are now ready to use your files to make beautiful layouts. If you have any questions about this tutorial or would like to request a tutorial, please visit and post to the Tutorial Help & Request Forum.
